Overview

Ed-tech has no shortage of platforms and tools promising to modernize the classroom... most built by people who've never stood in front of one. History.org started from a different premise: a coalition of the country's leading historians, museums, and educators.

Launch 2024

A product that succeeds because it's small and closely supported doesn't automatically succeed at scale. Without a sharper reason for teachers to adopt it, growth risked turning history.org into just another tool competing for a new user login.

Strategy

Stakeholder interviews and a competitive scan across the category all pointed to the same finding: everyone in this space calls itself a platform, and teachers have learned to be wary of the word — another system to be trained on, another login assigned to them. Nobody was offering teachers what any other digital professional already expects: a workspace, built around the shape of their job.

Positioning

That distinction became the idea the brand needed. Treating teachers as the digital professionals they already are, and the coalition's archives as the raw material of their actual work rather than supplemental content. It gave the coalition language sturdy enough to carry into the room during key second-round funding, and it gave the product team a clear target heading into open beta.

Manifesto

Digital Tools solve pain points.
Uber. Spotify. Airbnb. Headspace.
Trapped. Bored. Stranded. Stressed.

But what solves systemic failures
Teachers can tell you. It won’t be tools.
It will be bravery ... to understand the realities of today and then still seek better.
It will be innovation ... to constantly find and create better learning opportunities.
It will be compassion ... to create and curate variations of each lesson and resource for every learner.
It will be dedication ... to seek out the right primary sources for better learning outcomes.

No, it will not be another tool.
It will be a space.
A workspace for teachers that understands the ways. They. Work.
Packed with purposeful innovation and the delightful design needed to get the job done.

history.org is built on a simple truth—
when our teachers have the right resources at the right moment,
it changes their students’ world. And in turn they will change ours.

We exist to make that moment happen in every
US History & Civics classroom, in every district, in every state
—every single day.

Digital Experience

history.org is now in open beta across its five expansion states, carrying a narrative built to do two jobs at once — winning teachers in the classroom, and winning the funders who need to believe the coalition is building something bigger than a pilot.
