The Tower
Vol I.
OverviewThe Tower started as overflow — the excess writing from a home-brew D&D campaign that never made it to the table. Running it as a one-hour session for a few coworkers surfaced the real idea underneath it: what if the format wasn't a campaign at all, but a zine? Pick it up, play it once, put it down. Using nothing more than Google Docs' jump-nav for headers, a 60-page story with six endings took shape. That draft went to Jared, my creative partner at Speedway — and once he offered to illustrate it, the project stopped being a writing exercise and started being a release.
The BookInside, the choose-your-own-adventure mechanic, gets the same manuscript treatment: numbered passages, illuminated section markers, woodcut illustrations of towers, wizards, and crystal orbs guiding readers toward one of six possible endings. The pacing was built for exactly one sitting.
Launch EventThe launch extended the bit all the way to the event itself. Equinox Coffee came on to host, bringing in The Perfect Play to help shape the night, and the shop built a custom drink menu around the book's world — a honey mead latte, a blueberry lemonade styled like a potion list.
EphemeraHand-printed tees, totes, and posters carried the cover art out into the world as merch, the same way a band sells a hoodie at the back of a venue. A companion playlist rounded out the illusion: this wasn't a book signing, it was a record drop that happened to come with something to read.
